I think overall, the lesson went pretty well! I was definitely difficult to fit a topic I’m passionate about into merely 10 minutes, so I think the pacing definitely needed a lot of work. I thought the presentation slides were done well, it had plenty of visuals and not too much text crowding the slides. The content wasn’t too difficult, but it was concise enough to get the most important information down. The dancing part went pretty well too, Brandon, Mark, and Taha had a pretty fun time just grooving to the music and learning about breaking!
In terms of improvements, as mentioned before, pacing was definitely the biggest thing. Breaking has a lot of interesting history, and I wanted to include them. But obviously, I can only do so much in just 5 minutes (since the other 5 minutes were dedicated to the dance tutorial). Even after cutting off some content as suggested, everything still felt rushed. Some points are skimmed over, and even so, at the end of the lesson, I still didn’t have a lot of time for the dancing portion. They had a lot of fun, so they definitely would’ve appreciated a bit more time to experience the music.
Next time, I will focus more on one of the parts of the breaking, perhaps just the battling, instead of diving into the history as well. I think it would’ve been nicer to teach the three of them to dance a bit first, and then go over the lesson, and then finish the last bit of the dance lesson. I think it would be more interesting to mix up the learning part and the movement part.
But overall, a very fun experience to say the least! I learned how hard it is to teach something on time, and I am sure it would be hard to teach even for a math topic, but I am looking forward to it! :)
